Whales and dolphins
The fjords around Skjervøy are rich in the biodiverity thoughout the whole year. Lets share this pleasure at sea in search for cetaceans
The fjords around our home Skjervøy are rich in the biodiverity thoughout the whole year.
During spring and summer cetaceans such as dolphins and whales are been found in the areas of our region to feed. Capelin is on the main menu. Capelin is a small Arctic pelagic fish and a key-specie in the marine ecosystem of the northern hemisphere. As the capelin is the main dish not only for cetaceans but also for other fishes(example herring, mackerel and cod) and also the big amount of seabirds. The ecosystem in our area is exceptionally rich and supports a fascinating diversity of wildlife.
And we are more than honored to bring you out at sea in search for these marine mammals in their natural habitat.
Our beloved residents dolphins; white beaked dolphins and harbor porpoise are to be seen in our areas all year round. These cetaceans move frequently in our big fjord system.
We are happy to also time to time see the other cute residents marine mammals seals and otters. They are clever with their camouflage, so they are a little difficult to spot.
In the end of January, after the winter whales ends their feeding party in the fjords around Skjervøy, whales are still time to time been observed.
It is important for us to make sure the understanding of unpredictability and the coincident of observing the mentioned wildlife during our activity. We never know which species will appear during our activity. And that is exactly what makes wildlife so amazing!
The international term whale watching refers to the practice of observing cetaceans in their natural habitat. Cetaceans include whales, dolphins, and porpoises.
Our local guide will make sure this activity at sea is high in quality and safe, for you to feel taken care of and catered to.
We look forward to being your host!
